Rob Kaleika

Rob Kaleikau - Head Coach

Rob Kaleikau brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to MCC - Longview based on over 38 years of experience teaching, competing, and coaching volleyball at the local/regional/national/international levels of competition throughout the U.S., Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico.

As a coach and skills instructor, Rob has participated in many volleyball events with various organizations including colleges, universities, high schools, USA Volleyball (USAV), USAV High Performance Tryouts, USAV junior club teams, junior high schools, Heart of America Sports Camps, city parks and recreation programs, faith-based organizations, private fitness/health clubs, YMCA's, and others.

During his high school years in Missouri, Rob was a 2-time AAU volleyball high school All-American hitter/setter/all-around athlete and was recruited by several Division I and NAIA schools including Ohio State Univ. (Columbus, OH), Pepperdine Univ. (Malibu, CA), Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles, CA), and Graceland University (Lamoni, Iowa).

He attended Loyola on a volleyball scholarship where, as a starting freshman setter/hitter, the Lions competed in the NCAA Division I, SCIVA League (now the PAC 10/Big West/etc. conferences), against power house teams such as UCLA and USC, both former #1 volleyball national championship schools. The Lions also toured internationally to Canada and Mexico to compete against players from collegiate all-stars and Olympic and/or national teams.

Transferring from Loyola to Graceland University the following year, the Yellow Jackets became the 1978 runner-up NAIA National Champions and Rob was selected to the All-Tournament Team. The following year, Graceland captured the 1979 NAIA National Championship crown. Rob was again selected by coaches to the All-Tournament Team, and was also honored to receive the National Tournament Most Valuable Player Award. He finished Graceland as a 2-time All-American, 3-time MAIVA League MVP, 3-time team MVP, and 2-time varsity captain. Rob also won over 40 USAV tournaments in his career as a player.

Founder of Rob Kaleikau Volleyball (RKV) sports training company, Rob currently provides volleyball skills instruction and programming and has successfully trained over 1300 athletes throughout the mid-west since the mid 1990s. The majority of athletes he trains compete on high school/jr. high/juniors club teams in Missouri and Kansas.

Rob has also served as an adjunct faculty member teaching volleyball courses to students at MCC - Longview, "College of the Year", by TIME/Princeton Review in 2001.

Rob is an alumnus of Graceland University, Loyola Marymount Univ., University of Hawaii (Honolulu, Hawaii), and Harvard University (Cambridge, MA). He is professionally certified through USA Volleyball CAP I and IMPACT, and the American Sport Education Program.

Rob holds undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and Psychology, and advanced degree/certificate of completion in Urban and Regional Planning, and Advanced Management Development.

Rob has also serves as a Lead Player Evaluator for the National USA Volleyball High Performance program which is the "pipeline" for young volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of USA Olympic competition.

Rob is a Missouri native -- birthplace, Jefferson City, MO. He grew up in the Hawaiian Islands and French Polynesia, Tahiti, as well as throughout the midwest (Missouri/ Kansas/Iowa). Rob has resided in Lee's Summit, Missouri with his wife (Cynthia) and two children (Taylor, Jace) for the past 25 years. 

 

Philip BennettPhilip Bennett-Associate Head Coach 

Philip Bennett joins the MCC Longview Lakers bringing a strong Volleyball background, both as a player and a coach. Bennett comes to the Lakers after two years as Head Coach of Region 16 rival Wentworth.  

A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Philip attended the University of Kentucky, receiving an Associate of Arts as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in Kinesiology and Education. 

While at Kentucky, Bennett was a member of the Men's Volleyball team. As a setter, Bennett helped guide his team to the National Club Volleyball Federation tournaments in 2001.

He began his coaching career at the University of Kentucky as he assisted the Women's NCAA DI program as the Video and Stats Manager. 

After graduation, Philip served as the Assistant Coach at Carson Newman College NCAA DII for the 2007-2008 seasons. While his duties included Game Planning, Promotions, Marketing, and training Middle Hitters/Blockers his highlight was leading the Eagles to a first place finish in NCAA DII Blocking Stats.  

He left Carson Newman to spend a year at the University of Tennessee were he assisted with practice, on campus recruiting, video editing, and stat production. 

Bennett has extensive Volleyball camp experience, coaching in camps at Kentucky, Carson Newman, Tennessee, North Carolina, Belmont, Middle Tennessee, and East Tennessee State University.

He also has ties to the Volleyball Club teams in the Mid-South region of the country - serving as Head Coach/Director to a number of Club programs including:

  • Phoenix Rising
  • Smoky Mountain Juniors
  • East Tennessee Advance
  • Lexington Select 

Philip was also serve as Director of Summer Camps for Wentworth.

Philip and his wife Jessica have three daughters (Cadence, Tatum, Merridy,) and son (Asher).
