Trail Blazers Spotlight


This month's Trail Blazers in the Spotlight are Sydney Shatzer, April Krumm, Anna Witherell, Megan Long, Madison Hart, and Tyler Farrell.  Not only are they an integral part of the 2017-2018 Trail Blazers soccer team, but all six were National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic selections in 2016-2017.  Additionally, their stellar academic performance contributed to the women's team earning NJCAA All-Academic Team Honorable Mention with a 3.16 Grade Point Average (GPA).

Sydney Shatzer and April Krumm earned First Team NJCAA All-Academic honors with a 4.0 GPA. Sydney is a graduate of Lee's Summit North High School and is working toward a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Kinesiology.  April is a graduate of Jefferson City High School and plans to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  

Anna Witherell and Megan Long earned Second Team NJCAA All-Academic honors with GPA's between 3.80 - 3.99.  Anna is a graduate of Centerplace Restoration High School.  Her educational goal is to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  Megan graduated from Smithville High School and is working toward a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.  

Madison Hart and Tyler Farrell earned Third Team NJCAA All-Academic honors with GPA's between 3.60 - 3.79.  Madison is a graduate of Blue Springs South High School.  Her academic goal is to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Radiology.  Tyler is a graduate of Smithville High School and is studying to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Digital or Commercial Art.  

Sydney, April, Anna, Megan, Madison and Tyler are shining examples of what student-athletes can accomplish on the field of play and in the classroom.

Trail Blazers earn tie against Iowa Central

After a challenging start to the soccer season, the women's soccer team found some success against the 2015 NJCAA National Champion, Iowa Central Community College. The Trail Blazers tied a high quality Iowa Central team 2-2 on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

Ally Jones, a freshman from Kearney High School, started the scoring in the first half with her second goal of the season.  She was assisted by MCC-Blue River team captain Paige Deuel.  Allie Welch, a sophomore from Center High School, increased the lead to 2-0 with her second goal of the season.  Iowa Central evened the score with two second half goals. As the match went into overtime, both team created quality scoring chances, but the game ended in a tie after 120 minutes of soccer.  

Next up for the Trail Blazers is Neosho County Community College on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2 p.m. The game will be played at Bingham Middle School, 1716 South Speck Road, Independence, MO 64057.  Admission and parking are free!
